Why Detox your Body?
“We are guinea pigs in a massive, uncontrolled chemical experiment, the disastrous outcome of which is measured in disease and death.” – Dr Rick Smith, executive director of Environmental Defense.
You’ve heard of polluted food, water, air – things that are out there. But did you know the same pollution is also in you?
The average person today has almost 300 toxic chemicals in his or her blood. These chemicals, which can cause anything from liver damage to cancer, come from the air we breathe, the food we eat, water, buildings, pesticides, and from the millions of consumer products that we use each day. According to recent research, the toxic chemicals in our cell phones, our computers, our perfumes, our shaving cream, and our clothes are present in our bodies. Our blood harbor pesticides, consumer product ingredients, and wastes from burning coal, gasoline, and garbage!
Shocking, but true. Our bodies have become the chemical industry’s landfills which is why we should occasionally detox our body.

Many synthetic chemicals have been introduced during the past 50 years – in consumer products, industrial manufacturing and products, pharmaceuticals and their by-products. As a result, every day we are exposed to numerous chemicals, which are incorporated into countless consumer products currently available on the market. |
Although some of these chemicals benefit our standard of living – some chemicals for example, keep insects from ravaging crops and lift stains from carpets – they are also a source of our daily exposure to a cocktail of hazardous toxins, which can cost us our health, and lives. These toxins may end up in blood and human tissues, sometimes bio-accumulated, persistent and toxic properties which may take many years or never for the body to naturally get rid of them without the help of a body detox plan.
Recent scientific developments have enabled a shortcut in monitoring risk assessment of our exposure to such chemicals. Instead of measuring concentration in air, water and food and using them to assess exposures, scientists have scientifically tested potentially hazardous substances using human samples (e.g.: blood), which allows them to estimate the toxin burden or toxicity (the total amount of a substance in the body) of pollutants and synthetic chemicals. Toxicity is said to be a major contributing factor to compromised health.
What they found bodes ill for mankind today: The average adult today is a walking chemical plant! Our body has a wonderful ability to constantly regenerate, detoxify and heal itself. However our detox system can become overloaded with toxic chemicals and substances that can retard its efficiency. Without a body detox, most if not all will remain that way for the rest of their lives.
Shocking, but true. Chemicals which are the by-products of industry – such as the incineration of municipal, medical and industrial waste; chloride-bleaching processes for paper, pesticide production; metal smelting methods; and the manufacture of household and industrial chemicals – have all been detected in human blood. Many of these compounds, which are absorbed by our body, stay there for years, and scientists’ fear about their health effects are growing.
In the US, scientists have found that US residents have the world’s highest level of perfluorochemicals in their bodies. Perfluorochemicals are a family of manmade chemicals that have been used for decades to make products that resist heat, oil, stains, grease and water. Common uses include nonstick cookware, stain-resistant carpets and fabrics, as components of fire-fighting foam, and other industrial applications. It takes the body at least 8 years to rid itself of these chemicals.
Alerts are now being sounded, and concerns raised everywhere on the well-being, and even continued existence, of mankind from the unrelenting chemical assault facing us today.
So, have you decided to detox your body yet?
