Lemon Detox/ Master Cleanse
This way of detox, created by Stanley Burroughs, was published in his book "Healing for the Age of Enlightenments". If you want to get a detailed outline and explanation of the Lemon Detox, it is best to read this book, as it is in-depth and information in reference to the Master Cleanse. The "lemonade diet", as it is commonly known, is effective in rapid weight loss and health improvement. One must stay on this detox diet for a minimum of 10 days for it to have full effect; some say it can even be practiced for up to 40 days; one can partake in the Lemon Diet as much as 3 to 4 times annually. You can tell when the detox is complete when the tongue turns pink again, after being white due to the "candida yeast" (white material) which normally coats it. After being on the lemon detox, people have reported feeling younger, healthier and more energetic.

Several studies conducted in the past have shown that even cancer patients have been helped greatly by coffee enemas as it increases the ability of the liver to flush out toxins from the body and therefore enables the body to detoxify naturally. Coffee is administered to the body through the anus and is absorbed by the blood vessels of the bowel walls and makes its way to the liver. |
However, remember that when the detox is complete, you cannot resume a normal diet straight away; consumption of regular solid food can only begin after 4 days. On the first day, only orange juice can be consumed. The second say entails additional orange juice as well as vegetable soup, while on the third day your body can be reintroduced to salad, vegetables and fruits. As stated above, the 4th day signals the end of the detox transition, and regular food intake can begin.
Recipe for Lemon Detox
Lemon - This citrus food is incorporated in the master cleanse because it is known as a "healing food" and is abundant with vitamins and minerals essential to the body, namely vitamin C and potassium. Lemon also has the ability to make detoxification and cleansing more efficient because of its alkaline-inducing properties.
Maple Syrup - Because maple syrup provides the body with micronutrients and essential calories, it is known to be a form of "good sugar". This syrup is also abundant in minerals such as zinc and manganese. Stanley Burroughs suggests using Grade B maple syrup in the lemonade diet because it contains more minerals as opposed to Grade A. Also, Grade A has higher risks of containing formaldehyde, a dangerous substance. Instead of maple syrup, you can also use agave if you prefer.
The master cleanse consists of consuming 6 - 12 glasses every day of
- Juice of 1/2 a lemon
- 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
- 1/10 a tablespoon of cayenne pepper (depends on your threshold for spice)
- 8 ounces of water
This intake of daily juice equals 3 - 6 lemons and 3/4 - 1 1/2 cups of maple syrup. The master cleanse can be drunk either cold or hot; it will have the same effect either way. You must be cautious to avoid constipation, because the master cleanse does not contain any dietary fibers. It is for this reason that you should consume laxative tea every night and a saltwater solution every morning; this will allow you to excrete waste materials accordingly and regularly.
Side Effects of Lemon Detox
When commencing the detox diet, most people feel intense hunger and dizziness; this is due to the sudden withdrawal from solid nutrients. Diarrhea or loose stools are also experienced, and are a common occurrence; this is a result of the consumption of the saltwater and laxative tea. During the detoxification, it is essential that you have regular bowel movements, to allow the constant removal of toxins and waste. People who perform the master cleanse often lose amounts of weight very rapidly, because of the lack of calories ingested. People who are patients of diabetes, cancer, anemia and gallstones should not perform the master cleanse as it would be very dangerous to the health.
